The "free" business model

BeyondVC

Chris Anderson does a nice job of summarizing the rise of the "free" business model starting with the Razor/razor blade to the world of the web where he argues that all services eventually get priced at their marginal cost. And as Chris rightly describes, that price is quickly going to zero in a world of technology where Moore’s Law continues to hold and where storage costs are declining rapidly.

World Mobile Conference- The Year of the Browser

Jason Ball

The number one thing that jumped out at me during the conference was Google’s report that there are 50x more searches originating from the iPhone than any other mobile handset. Just to put that in perspective there are 4 million iPhones in the wild compared to 3 billion other mobile devices. This goes hand in hand with O2′s report that 60% of U.K. iPhone users are sending or receiving more than 25 MB of data a month- which is unheard of on other handsets.

What a Microsoft Yahoo deal would mean for startups (continued)

BeyondVC

What a great move by Microsoft! This has been floating around for awhile and the last time I wrote about it was in May of 2007. Anyway, I thought I bought at the bottom for Yahoo months ago in which case it fell another 25% from there. When I saw the news this morning I was quite happy to sell my shares and make a slight profit. As we all know when it comes to the Internet and advertising, scale matters.

MySpace scaling revenues

aweissman.com

skip to main | skip to sidebar. aweissman.com. Maximizing the serendipity around you. Feb 7, 2008. MySpace scaling revenues. MySpace is a service that has tremendous benefit and utility to its users, and in terms of an efficient, scalable business, is wildly underrated in the tech industry. Facebook et al seem to get more attention and have more sex appeal, which I think works to MySpaces advantage.
