Sphero Has Shipped!

Feld Thoughts

My little buddy, the robotic ball controlled by your smartphone named Sphero, has shipped and you can order a Sphero now ! Having watched Sphero come to life over the past 17 months, starting as a seed of an idea in the heads of two mad geniuses (Ian Bernstein and Adam Wilson) has been awesome. I remember seeing Ian and Adam’s video application to TechStars for the Boulder 2010 program (at the time the company was called Gearbox).

More On Recruiting Programmers To Your Startup

Feld Thoughts

Chris Dixon had an excellent post yesterday titled Recruiting programmers to your startup. The post, and the comments, are full of super useful stuff that every entrepreneur should read carefully. I sent the link for the post out to the Foundry Group CEO email list and it generated a great discussion thread, including one of the companies sharing their full day interview / evaluation process which includes a four hour coding exercise.

The Kinect Accelerator

Feld Thoughts

As someone obsessed with human computer interaction, the Kinect is an important piece of hardware. Of all the various things Microsoft is working on these days, I find it the most interesting. I’ve seen some awesome things done with it by my friends at Oblong and Organic Motion and saw a ton of neat hacks at last year’s Blur Conference.

The Silent Killers

Feld Thoughts

On my run yesterday in Central Park, I was thinking about the characteristics of some of my favorite companies. They don’t spend a lot of time trying to get written up in TechCrunch.

It’s Not About Having The Most Friends, It’s About Having The Best Friends

Feld Thoughts

Over the past month I’ve been systematically cleaning up my social graph. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to do this, as I’m a very active user of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, and Google+ along with a bunch of applications that leverage these various social graphs. Historically, I’ve been a very promiscuous friender, accepting almost all friend requests.

Kauffman Sketchbook: Where Do Entrepreneurs Get Their Money?

Feld Thoughts

My friend Paul Kedrosky – who spends some of his time as a Senior Fellow at the Kauffman Foundation – has a thoughtful short video (as part of the Kauffman Sketchbook series) on where entrepreneurs get their money. While it’s easy to get confused and think that VCs are the center of the financing universe, Paul reminds us that most entrepreneurial companies are funded by the entrepreneur’s savings, cash flow, credit cards, friends, and family.

Startup Communities: Creating A Great Entrepreneurial Ecosystem In Your City

Feld Thoughts

I’m deep into writing my latest book. For now, the title is “ Startup Communities: Creating A Great Entrepreneurial Ecosystem In Your City.” I’m open to different titles – if you’ve got ideas just put them in the comments. Following is the current table of contents. It’s still pretty dynamic as I’m adding stuff while I’m writing.
