I asked some of the same questions I ask in my Free Startup CTO Consulting Sessions and then I get to a very common conversation: Me : Do you have specs?

Plans are worthless, but planning is indispensable

The Equity Kicker

Every now and again I come across a phrase which I wish I’d come up with myself and this is one: Plans are worthless, but planning is indispensable. Chris Dixon used it as a title for a post yesterday, and at first I thought the credit was due to him (which wouldn’t have surprised me), but it turns out that President Eisenhower uttered these words in a 1957 speech.

How my yearly donations say a lot about the times

Hippoland

In the past couple of years, Curt and I have been donating to different causes. Even though I’m an entrepreneur and don’t pay myself a lot, I’ve had a fortunate life and want to give back. I’ve been inspired by our religious friends who have donated as much as 10% of their pre-tax earnings even while they were graduate students (and in some cases, while they had families, too).

The SRS 2012 Merger and Acquisition Terms Study: Comments on Key Findings

Pascal's View

My comments on the key findings from the Shareholder Representative Services 2012 M & A Deal Terms Study are in bold: Deal sizes: although the median deal size* rose slightly to $75 million in 2012 from $70 million in 2011, deals $50 million or less grew to 42% of deals in 2012, up from 33% in 2011. An increase in the percentage of smaller deals in and of themselves doesn’t tell us much.
