First, there is an organized community net which is better (although certainly not perfect) at “catching” raw entrepreneurial talent out of the universities and keeping people here in their 20’s. Plus, on top of it all, with accelerator programs we’re net importing kick-ass founders from all over the world.

We’ve observed it repeatedly in our portfolio as Founder/CEOs seek additional rounds of financing: the engaged skeptics just never quite get there, but the entrepreneurs who cast the nets wide enough find someone who believes.

These mega-wealthy individuals, sometimes not from the startup world, invest an extremely small portion of their net wealth into early-stage startups so that they have something to talk about with their friends at cocktail parties. CONS: often very little help or involvement with the company post-investment, if at all.

Meanwhile, I believe we’re entering a second phase of the online video space in which the discovery mechanisms for (semi-)professional content, coupled with the increase of professional content available online in a distributed fashion, will facilitate a willingness of users to venture beyond YouTube to consume video across the net.

With traffic proliferating towards the far reaches of the net (way down the long tail, if you will), advertisers are having a more difficult time reaching these corners. Widgets are certainly one way to do this , but it isn’t necessarily always a personalized experience. Almost all of the video we watch online is in receiving mode.
