In a recent conversation with a fellow CTO, we lamented about the fact that while there's very active software development and web development going on in Southern California and West Los Angeles, yet there didn't seem to be as much of a community around it. Yes, there are some events around particular technologies.

I have to say that it has netted far more than I would have thought. Dr. Karrer was valedictorian at Loyola Marymount University, attended the University of Southern California as a Tau Beta Pi fellow, one of the top 30 engineers in the nation, and received a M.S. Technology Jobs in Southern California – a Rebound.

Where I think Robert’s comments are slightly wrong is that AngelList is a net positive for VCs. Ask anybody who has worked with a hand-on early stage investor (Fred Wilson, Josh Kopelman, Jon Callaghan) and they’ll tell you they wouldn’t do it any other way. My view for VCs.

Audacity is required to build an innovative startup, to invent something new, try to do things others say you cannot do, and Southern California needs many more audacious people in its tech and media startup ecosystem. In the history of Southern California, there has always been a large slice of creativity involved also.

If you are entering a field that you are less familiar with, not only will doing plenty of research make you feel more prepared, but it could potentially stop you from being taken advantage of in the early stages of developing your app or product. However, the somewhat niche nature of her app proved a difficulty.

Similarly, the bulk of the companies getting funding are still California-based. After Northern California and Southern California the biggest area of investment geographically was in international companies. Been there Done that This is very depressing for all future founders, or even currently early stage founders.
