METAL MONDAY: Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth - Love ‘em or hate 'em. The music is great, but Dave Mustaine is about the most unlikable human being on the planet. Here is one example of his “brilliance”:
I like jazz, but I could never play it. You just sit there with a guitar the size of a Chevy on your chest, wearing a stupid hat, playing the same solo for an hour.
That is what you get from metal’s most opinionated celebrity and good thing that Metallica dumped him before he trainwrecked that band. Despite all that (or maybe because of that), Megadeth is in the pantheon of thrash and has churned out numerous memorable and catchy tunes.
Countdown to Extinction was one of Megadeth’s most commercial efforts to date, and this song rocketed up the charts in 1992. It also featured my favorite of Medadeth’s (many) guitarists over the past 30 years, Marty Friedman.
