COVER FRIDAY: The Nile Song performed by Voivod - By 1993, the original Voivod lineup began to fray. The Outer Limits album was the first without bassist Blacky and the next album Negatron would see the departure of Snake. While Eric Forrest would do an admirable job filling in the bass and vocals spot, it never seemed like the same band. They were not bad albums by any stretch, just not the Voivod that we knew. Alas with Piggy’s death in 2005, the original lineup would never return, though the recent Target Earth album is about the closest we have come yet to the classic Voivod vibe.
For a band that was heading more and more in a prog metal direction, it seems fitting that their published covers would be Pink Floyd tunes. This time I am posting The Nile Song, off of the More album and one of Pink Floyd’s most hard rocking tunes ever recorded. Voivod basically keeps it pretty true to the original but in a way that lets you know you are still listening to Voivod. Happy Cover Friday and enjoy!
