Feld Technologies was acquired in November 1993. Over the next two years, I made 40 angel investments with the money I made from the sale of the company. Along the way, a number of the companies I had invested in as an angel investor raised money from VCs. Informal enough for me to play around with it for a while.

We were living in Boston at the time. I’d sold my first company, Feld Technologies, in 1993. At some point Amy and I realized we could live anywhere and we knew that Boston wasn’t home. At 29 years old I thought very hard about whether or not I was done.

We bootstrapped the business because we had to and by 1993, when we sold the company to a large public company, we’d built a nice, consistently profitable business. Since then, Ive been involved with creating and funding hundreds of companies both as an angel investor and a VC (now at Foundry Group). (Yes, 10 dollars.)
