Revenues for 1994 were only $50,000 but only four years later, in 1998, Siebel Systems had 1,600 employees, revenues had grown to $391 million, and net income was a handsome $43 million.

Found this post yesterday about the early days of Siebel. People get all excited about growth hacking these days, but Tom Siebel was hacking sales twenty years ago and steamrolling the market. There was nothing slow and methodical about Siebel’s early growth. While he had the experience of building a CRM system at Oracle and the personal means to bootstrap and accelerate his company’s momentum at the beginning, those are still some impressive numbers for the enterprise software market.
