I know that most people who are close to them tend to deny their existence, as we saw in the great housing bubble of 2002-2007 and the dot com bubble of 1997-2000. An obvious example is Google who may have gotten less market attention if there would have been 8 well-financed competitors during the 2001-2005 timeframe.

I got an internship on the buy side at the GM pension fund in high school--in 1997. I got my first job in venture--at GM--in February 2001. Venture Capital & Technology' My dad brought home an IBM PS/2 in 1987. I started a business newspaper in 1998 in college covering the stock market and the economy.

This lasted from about 2001-2004. This probably wasn’t a fun period of time for a new VC but nonetheless probably made Mike stronger than having started in 1997. Founded in Sunnyvale, CA in 2001. Current round: $10mm in Series E from Alloy Ventures, Lightspeed, and Walden International. Total raised: $30mm.

After I sold my first company, I started a company called Intensity Ventures to make all my personal investments from. When I started making venture capital investments in 1997, the pace of things, and the amount of work I did, was massive. The name kind of says it all.

Amazon priced it''s IPO in 1997 at approximately $500M (the $18 IPO price was an increase from the $12-$14 range) and first trade was at $29.25 We should also remember that Amazon went public at a time (Q2 1997) when many companies were pulling IPO filings because the market was beating up Internet valuations. or a market cap of $800M.
