The Mooresville Police Department sent out teams with cadaver-sniffing dogs Monday morning after receiving new clues in a 2003 missing persons case.
Investigators said they’re searching for the body of Bernadette Mildred Rodko, who was last seen Oct. 17, 2003, shortly before 3 a.m. She was on Interstate 77 at the time, near mile marker 43, officials said in a statement released Monday.
The case is being treated as a homicide. Rodko would have turned 58 on August 6, officials said.
Mooresville Police officials said they “recently developed investigative leads” that indicated where Rodko’s remains might be found. They also believe the new information could help identity the killer.
Among the areas being searched are properties on Ketchie Drive and E. Wilson Avenue in Mooresville, officials said. The residents of the properties are not suspects in the investigation, police said.
