Usually you have a catch-all bucket for “direct” or similar that often came through PR or word-of-mouth. Nobody likes to raise money then look like a loser.

In 2003 Electronic Arts actually moved their headquarters from Silicon Valley to Playa Vista, an crazy move at the time, and accelerated their growth as a result. If you plop your company here, great things could happen. Houses were cheaper, you couldn’t get good engineers, etc.
