That’s a bit of a cautionary tale to VC investors today who might think it’s inevitable that the private value they are enjoying in their portfolios will certainly translate to distributions in the near future. One thing that jumps out quickly is that TVPI between 2004-2010 (avg 2.6x) has underperformed 2011-2017 (avg 3.0x).

Unfortunately, either information asymmetry or physical distances and the resulting distribution costs can both cut against the economic advantages that would otherwise arise for all. In November 2011, David Rosenblatt took over as CEO and has been scaling the company ever since. Poshmark was founded by Manish Chandra in 2011.

AOL was controlled by one company and the Internet was distributed. They controlled distribution to the masses. The conventional wisdom at Fox’s headquarters is that MySpace had “made&# both YouTube & Photobucket by allowing them distribution. AOL was closed, the Internet was open.
