So it was sobering when, last week, Maker Faire / Make Media closed their doors for good. In 2014, the White House launched the Nation of Makers to “empower students and adults to create, innovate, tinker and make their ideas and solutions into reality.”. And as a company, they have seen sales triple in just the last year.

The MIT Media Lab was created at the same time – opening in 1985 – and there was a revolution at MIT around AI and computer science. So while I didn’t study at LCS or the Media Lab, I was deeply influenced by what was going on around me. Now, fast forward to 2014. Dick wrote in 1956.
