Mildred Cotton Council, aka "Mama Dip," has died, according to WRAL in Raleigh.
Council was a renowned chef and owner of Mama Dip's Kitchen restaurant on West Rosemary Street in Chapel Hill. She was 89.
Council got the nickname "Dip" at a young age from her siblings, the restaurant's website states. Her height and long arms allowed her to "dip" all the way to the bottom of a rain barrel.
She was born in Chatham County and opened Mama Dip's Restaurant in Chapel Hill in 1976.
The report states that Council had been dealing with medical problems but a "sudden medical issue" over the weekend required her to be hospitalized. She passed away at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill on Sunday.
