Recruiting Software Developers By Showing Up With Pizza

Feld Thoughts

Once again we are in a zone where hiring software developers is incredibly challenging. The market is fully employed and while there is some movement between companies, great developers tend to be decided to what they are doing for a while, especially in an entrepreneurial context. Last night I was at Angel Boot Camp in Boston. It was a dinner for about 50 angel investors – a mix of experienced ones and new ones – organized by Jon Pierce.

Random Acts of Kindness – Marathon Fundraising

Feld Thoughts

When you support a family member in need, you’re doing the right thing. The community you are part of is counting on you, and fulfilling your obligation to them is part of being a member of that community. What happens, though, when you help someone you don’t know? What happens when one community deliberately seeks out someone who needs a leg up and attention and support and reaches out – with no possibility of reciprocity?

People Place Thing

Feld Thoughts

I’m in Iceland spending the day at Startup Iceland 2012. Amy and I are having a great time in this fascinating country. At dinner last night, I got into a long conversation about what makes for a fulfilling life. MobileDay – Making Audio Conference Calls Work On Smart Phones

Feld Thoughts

Each day I do at least two, and sometimes as many as a half dozen, audio conference calls. I make almost all of them from my iPhone when I’m walking somewhere or driving in my car. I find the process of dialing into a conference totally insane, maddening, and archaic. Here’s how it usually goes when I’m in the car. I go to my calendar on my iPhone at the appointed conference time.

VC Rights: Up, Down, And Know What The Fuck Is Going On

Feld Thoughts

At the HBS VC Alumni event I was at last week (no – I didn’t go to HBS – I was a panelist) I heard a great line from a wise old VC who has been a VC about as long as I’ve existed on this planet. “VCs only need three rights: Up, Down, and Know What The Fuck Is Going On” If you’ve read Venture Deals: How To Be Smarter Than Your Lawyer and Venture Capitalist , you already know that Jason and I agree with this statement.
