Angel investors come from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and professions. I don’t have an MBA and I don’t live in Silicon Valley. million people qualify as accredited investors. However, entrepreneurs still need to approach angel investors offline for larger amounts of capital. I’m not your average angel.

As a native of Silicon Valley , I’ve witnessed the creative destruction of wave after wave of innovation as nearby corporate campuses repopulated themselves : From defense contractors to data centers , computer mainframe manufacturers to Internet search engines. Most of the technology industry is notoriously apolitical.

Sites like KickStarter have for years offered rewards and pre-sales for crowd investments, but real equity won’t be legalized until sometime this year for people other than accredited investors. Super-angels.

A while back I heard a talk by Dave McClure, a long-time angel investor, who also proclaims to be one of the “new breed” of venture capitalists in Silicon Valley, as CEO of 500Startups , which is either a micro-VC seed fund, or a startup incubator, or both. In any case, it’s time to look again at the options you really have.

This one claims to be the world’s largest single angel investor network, with 3000 accredited investor members throughout 52 chapters on 3 continents. The Founding Chapter is in Silicon Valley, California, (naturally). This group claims to be the largest angel investment community in the world.
