Just a week after Tech in Asia (Techinasia.com) completed its acquisition of fellow Singapore-based blog SGEntrepreneurs (SGE) for an undisclosed sum, the startup and technology blog today announced that it has also acquired Indonesia-based gaming blog GameSaku from Apps Foundry.

Founded just last year in 2012, GameSaku quickly became Indonesia’s top mobile gaming blog – GameSaku.com went from nothing to generating over 800,000 monthly pageviews within 16 months and with just two full-time staff.  While it started with only iOS coverage, today the gaming site covers all smartphone games from Android to Windows Phone. Still it’s a surprising move from Tech in Asia, an unexpected extension into the mobile gaming space that’s not its traditional focus on startups and technology.

Gamesaku founders Hendri Salim and Glenn Prasetya are expected to join the Tech in Asia team and help them grow its upcoming new vertical, Games in Asia (GamesinAsia.com), in Indonesia. While GameSaku currently covers mobile games in Bahasa Indonesia, it will eventually expand its coverage to PC and console gaming together with Games in Asia, which will cover the Asian gaming scene in English.

“We see a lot of potential in gaming in Southeast Asia, so Games in Asia is a natural step for us. With Hendri and Glenn in our team, we are confident that Games in Asia will grow well in Indonesia,” says Willis Wee, Tech in Asia’s founder. “Most importantly, Hendri and Glenn integrate very well with our Indonesian team. With the chemistry between us, I’m confident that we can build a great game blog for this region,” he adds.

“We are excited to be part of Tech in Asia, a media startup which truly understands quality content and the potential of the gaming industry in this region,” says Hendri Salim, founder and CEO of GameSaku. “Having followed Tech in Asia’s progress closely through its online content and conferences, we strongly believe in its mission and culture, and we look forward to working with the team to make Games in Asia a success.”

Interestingly TechInAsia.com has acquired GameSaku from Indonesia-based Apps Foundry, which is backed by East Ventures. East Ventures is also an early venture backer of TechInAsia.com back in the days when the site was social marketing blog Penn Olson.
