Is Twice As Fast, Agile, And Awesome. They shipped Sphero 1.0 just before the end of 2011 so their first real year in the market was in 2012. shipped in the fall of 2013 and was praised in reviews like the one in TechCrunch which gushed Sphero 2.0 And then came Ollie , which will join its older brother Sphero when it ships this fall.

Though the notion of a “lean startup” that uses both Agile and Customer Development approaches is ostensibly strongly customer focused, the purpose of these methodologies is for the company to find an maximize its market, not specifically to optimize the user experience. Another recent example from my world just to see what I mean is Rally Software’s acquisition of Agile Advantage. Fred Wilson once referred to this as a “ venture rollup ” which, while many are allergic to the word “rollup”, is probably as good a label as any for this. Doing this well is hard.

Given my deep belief in an agile development approach , I don’t really care what’s in the actual incremental releases at this point as I fully expect the furthest out they’ll be able to see is one quarter. I don’t know if they’ll have a once a week, twice a month, once a month, or once a quarter release cycle.
