On Saturday, January 7th at Pivotal Labs, NYC BigApps 3.0 Developer Day hosted about 85 developers, designers, and strategists making the final heroic push towards completing their apps. Fortified by delicious food, inspiring company, and troubleshooting NYC DoITT and API partners, attendees powered through the day. They finessed code, tweaked designs, gained new teammates, and received answers to tough questions.
Check out photos above. Remember, NYC BigApps submissions are due by January 25th, 5 PM EST. Good luck!
I am a big fan of what NYC is doing with open data. It is one of the cornerstones of keeping our democracy free and open as we move more and more towards a digital economy.
I cannot vouch for what other cities are doing in this regard, but it seems pretty clear that NYC is taking a leading role in open data. In large part, much credit has to go to Mayor Bloomberg and his administration for taking such an active role in fostering and melding technology innovation into government.
