I’m hoping to speak later this year in Philly, for example, where I’ll likely be in November and/or December (also in Annapolis so maybe Washington DC and/or Baltimore?). I don’t really proactively ask often to speak at events but I’m always open to it provided it’s somewhere that I already need / want to be.

We took a taxi in Baltimore yesterday with an African American driver and he told us about the riots and unrest here recently. We also discussed the Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriage in every state and how our country is becoming more tolerant of those that our different and how that’s a great thing.

I also strongly encourage people to read as a companion book Ta-Nehisi Coates’ book Between the World and Me describing his life growing up in poor Black neighborhoods in Baltimore and then his journey to NYC. Neither book sugar coats their personal journeys or lays out the fabric of America as a perfect place.
