Bootstrap was term coined from the computer lingo ‘booting’ which means starting a computer or starting a chain of processes which eventually starts up the operating system. In the startup world, bootstrapping essentially means funding your own venture and not being too dependent on external sources. Spend Wisely. Experiment.

When we launched two years ago, for example, the whole development team was based in India. As a one-man founder bootstrapping the business, this allowed me to hire a team for much less money. Plus, with India being 2.5 He hired a few ace developers for the Argentinean team and everything seemed like smooth sailing.

Either you will bootstrap the business or you will partner with someone local to fund it, because VCs won’t give you the time of the day. In terms of hiring software developers, it’s the most expensive location I know of; you’re competing for the best and brightest with the infinite pockets of Facebook, Google, and friends.

Sub-$2 million pre-money, it is better to bootstrap. Rajan Chandi then discussed HirePlug.com , a Facebook application to help large employers manage referral hiring. As a thumb rule, try to get enough validation so that you can get to at least a $2 million pre-money valuation before raising equity capital. Igor did not have an answer.

Since hiring relationships between branded employers and branded universities already exist, I believe the best opportunities are for Yogesh to connect brand name employers with unbranded institutes, and unbranded employers with branded and unbranded institutes.
