Tablets have grown enormously in popularity over the last few years and there are more options to choose from than ever before. While the iPad is iconic, it’s also rather expensive and there are Android tablets that work just as well for the entrepreneur or management member of a startup.

If you’re looking for a tablet that will make your business life easier, try one of these models:

1. Surface Pro 4

The Surface Pro 4 is available now (at the time of writing) for pre-orders and is the only tablet that allows you to utilize the full functionality of Windows, able to run any software your laptop could run. The 4, obviously is set to have plenty of additional features of the Surface Pro 3, which was an incredibly popular model.

It comes with some of the best tablet-compatible keyboards currently available. It’s noticeably heavier than most other tablets but is definitely lighter than any laptop with comparable processing power, making this a worthwhile investment.

With the Surface Pro 4 you really won’t need a full laptop anymore, but it will cost you a pretty penny to get this lovely piece of tech. If you’re a bootstrapped startup, you’re probably better off getting something else unless you really need the full functionality the surface pro offers.

2. Acer Aspire Switch 11

This tablet comes with its own keyboard and is one of the best mid-range Windows tablets available, offering almost as much functionality as the Surface Pro with drastically less cost. It offers users the ability to switch between using it as a laptop and using it as a tablet with ease, even featuring magnetic locks that allow you to connect the tablet to the keyboard effortlessly.

The only real drawback of this tablet versus a Surface Pro is that it doesn’t have particularly strong speakers, but most entrepreneurs won’t find this a big issue.

This is an excellent choice for the startup founder looking to purchase a mid-range tablet, typically sold for $600-650 depending.

3. Toshiba Encore 2 Write

The Toshiba Encore 2 Write is designed specifically with note-taking in mind and comes with a nice mixture of apps and software including programs that will help you organize your life and your business on the go. It also comes with a specially designed digital pen to help facilitate note-taking. It also comes with almost full Windows 8.1 functionality, the only drawback being that it doesn’t work well with some software.

This is also an excellent tablet for basic artwork as it comes with a sensor that detects hand pressure, which can help with shading.

If you’re an entrepreneur with a tight budget who really can’t afford to spend more than necessary on a tablet, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write is an excellent choice. Typically sold at $400, it’s still pretty expensive for an entrepreneur on a budget, but you’ll find the functionality well worth the expense.

4. Google Nexus

You can’t ignore Android when you’re talking about tablet, and the Google Nexus is at the top of this particular game. It’s always the first to receive the new Google OS and the Nexus 9 has excellent speakers as well as a beautiful screen.

The one drawback of Android tablets for entrepreneurs is that they tend to have fewer productivity apps, but this is still a great mid-range tablet. If you’re already comfortable with the Android interface and you simply need something a little more functional than a smart phone this is an excellent choice.
