CHICAGO WEEK EASY THURSDAY: Wishing You Were Here by Chicago - I really could not go a week of music from Chicago without playing something from the namesake band. While I am not one for the easy listening side of music, there is something pretty amazing about a band that can sell over 100 million records. Sure, they were never my thing, but they certainly managed to rule the radio for well over a decade during the 70’s and early 80’s with their jazz fusion / adult contemporary vibe.
I do not know a lot about Chicago, but I do know the song Wishing You Were Here pretty well. It was actually the inspiration to do a week of bands from Chicago when I heard it recently on the radio. I always liked the spacey part of the song, which seemed so different than the rest of their other big hits which were more straight up pop of the easy listening variety. But that chorus that included three of the Beach Boys (who happened to be in the studio when Chicago was recording) is pretty stellar as well.
