CHICAGO WEEK COVER FRIDAY: Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon by Urge Overkill (Neil Diamond cover) - I learned something new this week, that this band was actually from Chicago. Urge Overkill started at Northwestern in 1985 with Nash Kato and Eddie Roeser. Their first records were recorded by Steve Albini of Big Black fame and by the mid 90’s with the release of the LP Satuation, they finally got some recognition with their hit tune Sister Havana.
Pulp Fiction will always be one of my favorite movies. And one of the memorable tunes off of the soundtrack was this cover of the Neil Diamond 60’s hit Girl, You’ll Be a Women Soon. The story is that Quentin Taratino picked up the Stull EP in a Dutch record shop and liked it so much that he rearranged things to fit the song into the movie. I am glad made it happen as it is a killer cover.
