Fred Wilson had an excellent post up this morning titled Social Media’s Secret Weapon – Email. I completely agree that email is the key communications channel for social media and have written about this before in posts like 100% Click Through Rate , Email – The Original Social Graph and Email Is Still The Best Login.

Pogoplug is in our Digital Life theme and has a lot of conceptual similarities to our previous investment in Sling Media (now part of EchoStar). Today, there was a great review of the Pogoplug in Walt Mossberg’s column in the Wall Street Journal titled Get Your Storage Out of the Cloud. They are remarkable – they just work.

After all the obvious “oh my god, AWS is down&# articles followed by the “see – I told you the cloud wouldn’t work&# articles, some thoughtful analysis and suggestions have started to appear. In particular, some media and naysayers are emphasizing the wrong lessons to be learned from this incident.

One of the biggest trends in tech today is DevOps, which is closely tied into Agile, Cloud, PaaS, and SDN. If you are going to have a DevOps community media site, it is hard to imagine a better domain to for it to live at. But media content is not the only mission.

My first business partner, Dave Jilk (now the Standing Cloud founder / CEO), gave it to me as a birthday gift last week. The media is aggressively negative presumably in the quest for getting readership. I read Jonathan Livingston Seagull for the first time in 1975 when I was about 10 years old. Entitlement behavior runs rampant.
