We''ve included Windows on EC2 results as a separate set of data within the results view but caution that the results should be considered preliminary. Equipping the i7 workstation with a high-performance SSD has given the database updates test the largest performance gulf between our physical hardware and EC2 m1.large.

This is an EC2 test run on a pair of Large instances. Application performance can be directly mapped to hosting dollars, and for a start-up company in its infancy, hosting costs can be a pain point. We ran each test on EC2 and our i7 hardware. First up is plain JSON serialization on Amazon EC2 large instances.

In recent years, weve also got great new options all up and down the stack, in particular things like Amazon EC2 and RightScale (none of which would be possible without the free software movement).

When I built my first company starting in 1999 it cost $2.5 million in team costs to code, launch, manage, market & sell our software. We paid 10% of the normal costs for the software and that money was for software support. A 90% disruption in cost spawns innovation – believe me.

Through September 30, the only fees Standing Cloud is charging is for the server time and bandwidth usage; after that it will cost an additional $19.95/month
