January has been a very bad month for Ruby on Rails developers, with two high-severity security bugs permitting remote code execution found in the framework and a separate-but-related compromise on rubygems.org, a community resource which virtually all Ruby on Rails developers sit downstream of. Many startups use Ruby on Rails.

For most of its existence, PHP didnt have a standard package-distribution system or very good module support. Good article, this is exactly the reason Im still primarily a PHP developer rather than Ruby or Python. And this all came bundled up in another bad practice: a big monolithic interpreter. So heres to the team that built PHP.

Can institutions be totally distributed or should they be rooted and loyal to a certain community or geography? Why don't we just put this plan on the internet? I think it was December of 2010, and happened to just be reading that paper on the internet one day and just immediately captivated my attention. I'm curious.
