SATURDAY JAZZ BRUNCH: ‘Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk - It close to that time of year where we ring in the new year. When I think of music for this momentous occasion, I am either thinking something in the hardcore punk/extreme metal vein or some jazz type thing. While the classic jazz route would be Big Band, there is something timeless and ethereal and just down right classy about jazz piano.
Therefore, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the countdown to 2013 than with some Thelonious Monk. The tune 'Round Midnight published by Monk in 1944 is one of the all time great jazz standards, recorded well over 1000 times by all the greats. It is a boozy, slow dance, winding down the evening type of song when you are ready to call it the night from the evening’s merrymaking.
