Dumplings and Donations
I had plans to host a couple of my NYC Chinatown dumpling tours the week of October 29th and had quite a few sign-ups. I love hosting these tours. They have become something of a labor of love over the past two years and yet I have not tired of the dumplings, the neighborhood, or the awesome people that trek with me throughout Chinatown. So I was anxiously excited about the tours when disaster struck the East Coast and sent the storm of a century barreling through the NYC metropolitan area.
We are now a month removed from the day Hurricane Sandy ravaged our city and suburbs. Down the NJ shore where I live, I saw devastation that was simply too hard to believe. I had friends in NYC and the south shore of Long Island that had to evacuate their homes due to the ravaging floods. While most have returned home and life for the most part has returned to normal, there are still plenty of folks that remain homeless and plenty of folks that face an uncertain future.
I had held off on hosting any tours as people were digging out from the mess. With things settling down however, I felt it was high time to host some holiday season tours. But this is also the season of giving and to that end, I am hosting two tours next week and donating all the proceeds to charity to help Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Please sign up for one (or both) of the tours below:
NYC Feast of Shanghai Tour - Mon, December 10 at 6 PM
NYC Chinatown Dumpling Tour - Tues, December 11 at 6 PM
Why join my dumpling tour you ask? Well, not only do you get to eat obscene amounts of food at some of the best dumpling shacks and Shanghainese restaurants in NYC, you are helping those recovering from Hurricane Sandy and helping the small businesses in Chinatown that took a major hit during the storm. You might even consider “gifting” a dumpling tour for the holidays to friends or loved ones. Let this be the season of giving and dumplings and look forward to seeing you on a future tour.
