Illegitimi non carborundum

(Mock Latin for "Don't let the bastards get you.")

When you dare to try something big, and put yourself out there, the amount of support you get from others will undoubtedly be matched by the amount of people who secretly, or not so secretly want to take you down.

They're either jealous, or they like to be right--so they play the odds that you'll fail. Sometimes, they're too cool to admit you've done great work. Other times, they can't get noticed for their own success so they try to start a flame war to stir up some controversy.

The best way to fight it is just to put your head down and work that much harder. Success is the best revenge.

But, trust me, it will be hard to bite your tongue and not to take things personally--because you're all in. What you're doing IS you so it's hard to face criticism about your efforts.

You just have to ask yourself what you get if you win.

If you're taking about winning a flamewar, nothing. Everyone loses.

If you're talking about ultimate success in your career, you win pride in knowing that you did your work in a positive, impactful way. That's not something someone who tries to block your success can ever say.
