METAL MONDAY: Kluslap O'Korn by Voivod - Ah yes, Voivod. that weird thrash/prog metal band out of Montreal. Other than posting a cover of Pink Floyd awhile back, I have purposefully kept Voivod off Metal Monday till a new album came out.
Well, Target Earth dropped a few weeks ago and I can confidently say that they are back to form. The torch has been passed and Chewy does an admirable job filling in for the Piggy on the first full album of new material since Piggy passed away. While their proggy sensibilities may have taken the better of them with some songs that could have done with a few minutes shaved off, it is an excellent record that fits in well with the Nothingface era of the band.
While the title track Target Earth is a good song and good lead off to the record, I prefer the second track Kluskap O'Korn. I would not say this album is heavy, but this song definitely evokes Killing Machines. There is an aggressiveness and thrashiness that plays well with the oddness of the tempo changes while giving plenty of room to highlight the immense talents of Snake, Blacky, Away, and Chewy.
