Have you ever wondered how you can start making better business decisions?

Some people call it their gut instinct or their inner voice. It’s that feeling you get inside when you know the decision you’re about to make is the right or wrong one.

It’s your intuition.

Your intuition is the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. It can guide you in the right direction and help you avoid wrong decisions in business. It’s your secret weapon to making choices that are right for you and that are in line with your highest purpose.

Here are 3 ways to use your intuition to make better business decisions.

1. Pay attention to your body

Your body knows best. It will tell you if the decision you’re about to make is right for you. The key is to focus on your body’s immediate reaction to a situation and ask yourself questions about what that reaction means.

Researchers have found that “the heart and brain ‘speak‘ to each other to change our emotions and reduce fear.” This mind body connection, which seems inherent is a good indicator of what you should do next.

Let’s say you’re meeting with a potential business partner. What feelings do you notice in your stomach or at the base of your spine? Is there extra tension or a heaviness in your throat or in your chest? Think back to previous times you’ve experienced those feelings in your body. What was the outcome of those situations?

In general, when your intuition is giving you a “yes” signal you’ll feel lighter and more expansive. If it’s a “no” you’ll often feel tension or heaviness in certain areas. Signals are unique to you so it’s important to look back on your previous experiences and use those directionally.

2. Listen to your inner voice

The voice of your intuition will often speak in a whisper … not a loud roar. It’s easy for your conscious mind to drown out your inner voice by rationalizing or justifying what you think you should do. However, the quiet voice of your intuition will still be in the background.

This inner voice can attribute to making better business decisions. Your inner voice rises from deep within you (not from your head, where logic and reasoning live). It will also have a different sound than the regular mind chatter we all experience.

You can practice hearing your inner voice by taking a deep breath before making a decision, being still and considering the next right move.

In order to get used to the sound of your intuition think back to previous times you listened to and followed it. What direction did it lead you in before? What did that voice sound like to you?

3. Keep a journal

One habit that attributes to making better business decisions is journaling. Keeping a journal can help you clear out mental clutter that clouds your intuition.

When you ask yourself questions and look at your answers in an objective way you can observe patterns in your thinking; where you conscious mind and intuition is leading you. They might be guiding you in different directions.

For instance, if you’ve been struggling to launch a new product or service, but you’re not sure why, can ask the following questions:

  • Why did I create this product?

  • What is my true intention behind creating it?

  • What is my desired outcome from launching this new idea?

The more you answer and reflect on these questions, the deeper you’ll go and tap into your intuition. Often, the first few answers that come to the surface can be based in fear. Learn how to identify fear and then dive deeper.

The point of tapping into your intuition is to get to the core issue.

Using your intuition to make better business decisions comes down to practice. It’s a good idea to keep a record of what happens when you follow your intuition. It is always there to guide you towards making better business decisions.
