Andrew Warner from Mixergy posted - Before Looking for Funding, Get an Advisor. He recommends that early stage companies get input from people who know the funding process, know the vertical, etc. That's great advice. Of course, it's sometimes hard to find advisors. On the flip side, as a person who regularly advises early stage start-ups, I often have a hard time finding interesting start-ups.

I had some interesting meetings yesterday and as I reflected on them this morning, one common theme emerged which is that the next generation of the web will be built on data mining and extracting intelligence from the reams of data web services collect on a daily basis. A few months ago I had to open a new bank account with Citibank. The experience did not go well to say the least, which was sad because I have banked with Citibank for over 10 years. They did however follow up with me, the new customer, about a month later to see how things were going. To my surprise they did not recognize that I was already a Citibank customer and did not connect the dots between accounts (an easy thing to let slide).

The Web is winning (go figure)

Right after the mobile world congress this year, I posted that this was definitely the Year of the Browser. Opera have just released some pretty interesting stats on mobile web usage for Q1 2008 through the Opera mini browser: Social networking stands supreme. Almost 40% of traffic worldwide is to social networks. In some countries, such as the United States, South Africa and Indonesia, the social Web accounts for more than 60% of the traffic.
