It's Always Sunny on the Web

Genuine VC

Ben Kunz wrote an interesting article in this week’s BusinessWeek, but it wasn’t the controversial and inaptly-named title (“ Why Widgets Don’t Work ”) which caught my attention. Rather, it was his framework for the “history of the web” which did. He outlined a transition among three distinct phases of consumers’ primary activity online from receiving , to hunting , and now doing.

The Perfect Ad Campaign and Demographic

Eric Friedman

The Onion pretty much nails it. It’s showing tremendous impact on the cool, media-savvy rebels who distrust authority, prize alternative culture, think outside of the mainstream, and are willing to base their actions entirely on advertising images presented to them on TV. How dope is that? (Thanks Seth via Chet ).

iSurprise with Kleiner’s iFund

Jason Ball

Wow, who would have thought Steve’s “One more thing” would be a $100 million fund dedicated to iPhone apps. (It’s not everyday that I can blog about Apple AND Venture Capital in the same post…). The only part that threw me was it’s Kleiner Perkins and not Sequoia. Unless my history is wrong, Sequoia backed Apple , not KPCB- so why aren’t they running the iFund?

The Power of Word of Mouth Marketing

Eric Friedman

If you ask anyone in New York City what their favorite burger place is you will get some great answers. Many people believe it is Corner Bistro in the West Village, or perhaps they will claim PJ Clarkes. My personal choice is JG Melons. (see mouthwatering picture above that I took recently). I have talked about Word of Mouth Marketing before and thought I would present a mini live case study with my own thoughts on the subject.

Marketing.fm Turns 2

Eric Friedman

2 Years ago I decided to start blogging. I did not know what would happen or who I would meet but I knew I wanted to get started. It all started with the first Marketing.fm post appropriately titled Joining the Conversation. I could not have been happier with the response and I am thankful for all the people I have met. I have doubled the subscriber count yet again, gotten traffic and pageviews up, and introduced many people to new topics and blogging in general via my site.

Amazon quietly released video widgets this week… * Earn money when viewers follow links to Amazon and purchase products. * Easily add product pop ups to your existing videos. * Have price and product information pop up anywhere in your video. I have been brainstorming my thoughts on widgets lately and will be publishing a longer article soon…this move makes me continue to think that this is just the beginning of what is to come in the world of widgets and widget advertising. photo cr

The Next Web

Good post over at Genuine VC yesterday covering the History of the Web: …a transition among three distinct phases of consumers’ primary activity online from receiving, to hunting, and now doing… Receiving, Hunting, Doing is a good indication of what we’ve seen so far- and I think we’re going full circle to "Receiving" again- only this time from intelligent sources.
