ProfessorVC. The last blogger in Silicon Valley. Friday, April 11, 2008. Babys All Grown Up. Its been a while since my last post and it appears I missed the entire month of March. Not to worry, I was busy working on closing the Series B financing for iControl Networks. We ended up raising $15.5M, led by John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins. This got me thinking about my role in helping companies grow up.

During the last month, I have been in board meetings and thinking to myself about what was going well and what wasn’t. And when the discussion came to revenue, one common theme that always seemed to surface was a focus on the next product. What I mean is that when discussing why our current product wasn’t selling as well as it should have or getting as many users as projected, the answer was always focused on the next product or feature.

The guys over at nsyght have been burning the midnight oil… they released a beta version of the social search engine today, and techcrunch has a full blown review. Responding to criticism that the UK property market is crashing, Gordon Brown stated: "We’ve seen house prices rise by about 180% over the last 10 years and. they have risen by about 18% over the last three years, so a 2.5% fall. is something that is containable," Brown said. A quick check shows that Bear Sterns was up 150% over the last 10 years as at Dec 2007 ($90/share)… Then, the bottom fell out and the stock is trading down (87%) YTD ($10/share).

[Update, April 9] Just had a call from the guys at Jajah. They were very apologetic and stressed that they had not begun spamming their user base. Some background investigation is currently underway to determine how/where this message got sent…(watch it be my fault). Even if it did come from Jajah, a call to rectify definitely things puts it right in my book… Jajah is again my favorite voip service. – What is it with tech companies these days?
