I lived through the time when working in my first job in Ann Arbor Michigan we had to get out a map to find out that San Jose was not only in Puerto Rico but there was a city with that same name in California. A 20 th century VC was likely to have an MBA or finance background.

On June 18, Aswath Damodaran , a finance professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business, published an article on FiveThirtyEight titled “ Uber Isn’t Worth $17 Billion. Financial models, especially valuation models, are interesting in that they can be particularly precise. It now has high liquidity from South San Jose to Napa.

RCSMs premise is that they can reach an investment decision (and valuation) based on an application completed by the founders and take gut feel out of the decision process. This will also serve as a good pointer for all the entrepreneurs who ask why I am not interested in their company led convertible note financing round. In a convertible note structure, Im penalized for increasing your valuation. This can make it much more difficult to get any bank financing, new investment, and trade credit.

One comment made by Jason was that angels tend to be less sensitive than VCs on valuation and can potentially make it difficult to get a venture financing done at acceptable valuation. We are typically looking at either smaller exits or require a lower valuation to get a reasonable step-up to a venture round. Newer Post.
