SATURDAY JAZZ BRUNCH: On Green Dolphin Street by Miles Davis - It’s a rainy day type of music day and this classic from Miles’ modal era seems to fit. The song was orginally composed as a movie tune written by Bronisław Kaper and Ned Washington, but Miles turned it into a jazz standard after recording it in 1958 during his first sessions with his newly formed sextet.
On Green Dolphin Street is a mid-tempo, breezy track. The new line up with Bill Evans and Jimmy Cobb provided an entirely different feel from the prior quartet. In a way, it led to the more modal feel that would become the hallmark sound for the Kind of Blue album. Here we are getting a taste.
