Building a company is far more art than science, especially in the earliest days, and having the right support systems around the table – both knowledge and financial resources – is essential for managing the risks and opportunities of a nascent business.
“Taking the Long View” by Roger Ehrenberg
I agree, particularly regarding the point on chasing valuations. I would say that worthwhile knowledge and even financial resources however do not only have to come strictly from institutional investors. As an entrepreneur, getting help is not easy so you have to make do with the resources available or offered. Remember that the road is a long one before you even get to the point where even the most early stage VC’s will express interest.
