Integrating Social Media Into Your Business Website

Integrating Social Media Into Your Business Website

Social media is very important to small businesses. Not only should your business have social media accounts but also your website needs to be connected to social media. There are many different things that you should be doing to ensure that your website is integrated with social media to allow your visitors to share your information and find your website more interesting and valuable.

Use Social Media When It Makes Sense

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is simply slapping social media links and buttons all over your website. You should only use it where it makes sense to use it. For example, if you are very active on social media, you could have your posts show up on your homepage to ensure visitors are aware of your social media presence. However, if you really aren’t that active, then it doesn’t make sense to link them to your site.

Understand Each Social Media Platform

Using social media on small business websites is not enough. You have to actually understand social media and use it correctly. Each platform has rules and conditions. You need to know these and understand them so you don’t get your account shut down. In addition, you need to understand the basics. For example, Facebook is a great place to write up a blurb about your company or engage customers in a conversation whereas Instagram is mainly for images. You don’t want to use the platforms wrong or you will lose followers and then your social media efforts will be for naught.

Use Buttons

You should have social media share buttons on your website, along with buttons that lead directly to your social media accounts. The share buttons allow visitors to share things from your site on their own social media accounts. The links to your accounts allow people to find you on a social platform and follow you there.

When using buttons, make sure they are visible and easy to use. Also, check to be sure they aren’t too evasive. You don’t want your text being covered by a button so people can’t read it. At the same time, you want to be sure that the buttons are in a place that makes them easy to click. Finally, make sure that you update your buttons when new designs are rolled out, which probably happens more often than you think.

Have Social Media Log Ins

If you have visitors create an account on your site, offer them the option to log in using a social media account. This makes it much easier for your user to sign up and sign in. It eliminates all the guesswork of trying to remember the username and password used.

Integrating social media into your website is something that is fairly easy to do, but it can have a big impact on your website’s effectiveness. You want to be sure that you are making good use of social media so that it is drawing in visitors and allowing them to share information from your site to bring in even more visitors.
