Jason Calacanis started this initiative in response to the pay-to-play network of angel events that he despised. It serves a similar role as Digsby (which I love using) albeit from a social media metaphor rather than an IM metaphor. I’m a huge supporter of his initiative to help end this practice.

In the latter cases many companies (Flickr, Delicious, Blogger, Writely in 05-08 and lately Invite Media, Aardvark, Dodgeball, etc.) In the first instance many angels made beaucoup bucks by getting in on deals that IPO’d quickly. got picked up early without raising a lot of VC. We’re back in the “feel good angel&# phase.
