Indeed, Silicon Valley was born as a center for weapon systems development and its software and silicon helped end the Cold War. As there was no venture capital, these early startups were funded by early sales to weapon systems prime contractors and subcontractors.

In January, Jerry Neumann wrote a long and detailed analysis of his view of the VC industry in the 1980’s titled Heat Death: Venture Capital in the 1980’s. For example, my firm at the time, Continental Illinois Venture Corporation, the wholly owned SBIC of Chicago’s Continental Bank, had many successful investments.

She had an interesting insight: existing content/media companies were having the same problem as hardware companies that rarely made the leap to new platforms. And she had a model for a new media company for mobile and wearables. Companies that get started and built in Silicon Valley have historically focused on core technology.

Silicon Valley — another American racist/sexist shithole just like the Segregated South When the Internet first came around in the mid-1990s, it was herald as “The Great Equalizer” where anybody with a keyboard can start an e-commerce shop, publish their works and reach the world to millions who are also attached to the Internet.
