I normally do not dedicate space on this blog to highlight a particular restaurant, but the meal at il Pittore, Chef Chris Painter’s high-end Italian restaurant in Philadelphia was truly memorable. The most pleasant surprises were the appetizers, with the creamy and rich ricotta nicely complimenting the charred foccacia and the octopus which was tender yet crispy at the same time, reaping the benefits of sous vide and a quick searing at the end.
The only reason there are no pictures of the dessert course was that we were absolutely stuffed by the end of the evening. While the Chocolate Bomboloni gets all the attention on the dessert menu, we ordered a trio of gelatos. The mint chip gelato was absolutely stellar and worth the detour if you are not up for the heavy dessert.
NOTE: Yes, I am one of those dorks that brings a camera into the restaurant to take pictures of food. I have yet to be accosted by the kitchen staff though.
