WORSHIP SUNDAY: Come As You Are by Crowder - I has been some time since my last Worship Sunday post. I suppose I had been feeling rather uninspired by the state of worship music lately, much of it sounding very much the same. It was only recently that I picked up the recent David Crowder album, who had disbanded his namesake band to go solo. I wish I had listened to it when it came out in May, because it is pretty excellent and carries on with his folk-tronica / bluegrass tendencies with a few inspired slower tunes that would fit into any church service.
Come As You Are is one of those slower tunes. It is a quieter piano tune with David Crowder on vocals, some of the most powerful and vulnerable singing I have heard from him in a long time. A song about redemption, it might possibly be the best song he has ever written:
There’s joy for the morning
O sinner, be still
Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can’t heal
