According to a study conducted by market research company Nielsen, Singapore can expect to see explosive growth for mobile shopping – that is, consumers buying products and services off their mobile phones – rising exponentially from S$328 million last year to a projected S$3.1 billion by 2015 (which is quite in line with US numbers). So if you’re looking to grow your business, mobile e-commerce may be your answer.

Yet, according to Google, three out of four Singapore-based businesses do not have mobile-friendly websites. But that number may improve drastically if PayPal has its way – the payment solution provider today announced its “Mobile Commerce in a Box” solution in Singapore to help businesses build mobile-optimized websites by converting your online stores into a mobile-friendly interface. The solution makes your sites web-friendly by tweaking for larger product photos, buttons, links and text to make it easier to browse and shop on a mobile device. Aesthetics and interface aside, the solution also looks at optimizes for lower bounce rates, increased consumer browsing time, improved conversion rates that ultimately leads to increased sales via mobile devices.

Although still in a pilot stage, some businesses who have trialled the solution report encouraging signs.

“Initial results of our mobile-friendly website are very encouraging as they show that PayPal is helping drive significantly higher conversion and increased engagement with mobile shoppers,” says Andy Shea of online electronics store BestOfferBuy.com. “PayPal‘s Mobile Commerce in a Box solution… is a great offering from PayPal and helps a small business like us quickly adapt to the growing trend of more Singaporeans shopping and paying on their smartphones.”

To use this solution, existing PayPal merchants who use ZenCart or osCommerce shopping carts can simply download, install and use the plugin to convert existing online stores into a full-operational mobile-optimized store.
