Have you ever bought tickets to an event but later couldn’t make it, and found it a challenge to find someone else to take them off you? You know, like those coveted Radiohead tickets for a concert in your town as part of a very limited tour, but something urgent cropped up at the last minute but it would be a shame if it was wasted? Sure, you could spam messages on your social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, or on classified ads sites such as Craiglist to find someone willing to buy them at a decent price, but surely there’s a better way.

Well, there is. Ticketbis is an online platform where users can easily and securely buy and sell tickets for every kind of event, such as concerts, festivals, theater plays, art performances or soccer games. Offering over a million tickets for events all around the world in a transparent manner, the site threatens to put ticket touts – those you find outside event venues selling tickets at highly inflated prices – out of business.

Since its founding in 2009 by Ander Michelena Llorente and Jon Uriarte Uranga in Bilbao, Spain, Ticketbis had quickly dominated the market in Spain. The company then started its international expansion, and today has presence in 15 countries around the world in especially in Latin-speaking countries (which isn’t a surprise considering its Spain roots), but also covers parts of Asia including Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore.

Its success speaks for itself – it achieved 1 million euros in revenue even in its first year, and hit 5.5 million euros by 2011. The company hopes to achieve 30 million euros in revenue in 2013.

An online ticketing trading platform is a great way for users to trade tickets they’re not likely to use; for Ticketbis it’s a likely ticket to startup success.

  1. I urge people not to buy from Ticketbis and to read up on the reviews the website has online. I wish I had done it before I was tricked and not given my Justin Timberlake tickets. They have proven cases of not providing tickets and leaving people stranded and their CEOs recently had to close down their sister company Iguana Tickets during the World Cup for selling false tickets. This can all be found online too along with the numerous desperate attempts to clean up their image.

In other words: STAY AWAY FROM TICKETBIS

  2. Do not buy tickets from TicketBis..

I bought two pairs of tickets from TicketBis to a concert (they were sold only in pairs) for a Monday night. It was expensive at twice the original value of the tickets. I received one pair of tickets promptly. Then the problems began.

I received a phone call from a A at TicketBis. She explained that there were no more tickets for Monday night. If I wanted to attend, I would have to go on Sunday night. I explained that I could not attend on Sunday night and also that I already had half of my tickets for Monday night. She said she would call me back later. She did, and left me the following message.

“Hi Leslie. It’s A. I’m calling you from TicketBis again and I have good news. Please forget everything I said about the change that was made for the date. We actually found you two tickets for Monday, 30th June, and even in a better category. So enjoy your day and thank you. Goodbye.”

A week later, I received two tickets….FOR SUNDAY NIGHT.

A called the next day to ensure that I had received my tickets. I explained that the wrong tickets had been sent and reminded her that she had promised me Monday night tickets. I said that since I had paid for four Monday tickets that I expected to receive four Monday tickets or have my money (€366.58) refunded. A expressed sympathy and said that she would talk to her superior and call me back. She has not called.

One cannot contact TicketBis. They do not respond to email. A explained that agents are not permitted to receive calls. If you phone, you can only speak to someone if you know their extension number.

I am trying to sell my tickets at a loss. Due to the late date, just 4 days before the first concert, it may not be possible. I will spend the rest of my afternoon writing reviews of TicketBis everywhere that I can find an opportunity.
