The truth is that in my experience very, very few people really enjoy the “pure&# startup environment: months with no salary, months with no live product and lots of trial, error & rejection. Let’s say you became a partner in a VC fund in 1995 and started investing heavily in 1997-99. Long hours.

My starting salary was $27,000. In 1997 I was sent to England to work on a project for the oil company Halliburton. For 1991 I was very technical and also had a lot of practical business implementation experience in technology. My first job after graduation was with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).

For example, in 1997, I had not realized that you need to invent and reinvent your go to market strategy together with your product idea. Unfortunately, I experienced this dysfunction personally at my very first startup, SocialNet. As SocialNet was my first startup, I began with many bad theories of the startup game.
