QS World University Rankings for 2010

Many are intrigued by the QS rankings of the top 200 universities globally. QS  appears to be some kind of graduate school marketing firm (with a lot of focus on the MBA market) that universities hire to help them improve/increase enrollments.   They have been putting out their rankings of the world’s universities since 2004.

Much of the ranking is based on academic reputation and also on scientific citations, a much used, but incredibly crude measure. Also, don’t seem to see any measures of teaching quality. Here are the top 5.

1) Oxford University

2) Harvard University

3) Yale University

4) University College London

5) Massachusetts Institute of Technology
