2001–2007: THE BUILDING YEARS The dot com bubble had burst. SEEING THINGS FROM THE VC SIDE OF THE TABLE While I was a VC in 2007 & 2008 those were dead years because the market again evaporated due the the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Until we weren’t. Nobody cared about our valuations any more.

I would bet most of them can barely cut through the flow, and then they have to find the best deals and look over their shoulder for a larger VC who can pick off the deal, give the founder more money, and ratchet up the valuation in the process. Um… wow. OK, so microVC funds and smaller pre-seed financings could really be a thing.
