Notable Aspects of Their Business: 1) Kayak’s an Ad Business More Than a Lead Gen Business : To some this may be semantics more than anything. Historically more revenue came from distribution/lead-gen (57% in 2007), but this tipped in 2008 though appears to be steady from 2009 to 2010 at about 58% advertising and 42% distribution.

Factual was founded in 2007 by Gil Elbaz, whose last company Applied Semantics was acquired by Google in 2003, becoming one of the core components of AdSense. The open database service Factual announced yesterday that it has secured $25 million in financing, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Index Ventures.

My intuition is that this is why when Twitter initially took off (around the time of SxSW in 2007) it was an open “publish to the world” platform and the trend continued. Twitter, by contrast, started as an open platform where people let anybody see what they were writing. People write their thoughts knowing that anybody else can see them.

The cost of identity theft is staggering , up 37% since 2007 at $54 billion and in some cases impacts a victim’s life for years making it difficult to apply for jobs or buy a house. 2007 is the year social media began to show it’s face. It’s important these and other social services address the privacy issue head on.

The difference in the two that you mentioned … I realize this is semantics at some level, but the two that you mentioned are channel based, right? There’s no strategic method — You can say there’s a strategic methodology behind it depending, again it is semantics. Robert Rose: No.

Sitemaps are a “poor man’s semantic web.&# Basically it creates a map of your blog that computers can understand. I did my first post in 2005 and my second post in 2007. You can see statistics like what search terms people are using to get to your site. You can see which pages are linked to and from where.
